Granny Smith apples

Granny Smith apples originated in Australia in 1868 when Maria Ann Smith found a seedling growing by a creek on her property. Perhaps the most instantly recognisable of all apple varieties and one of the most widely known, Granny Smith is also one of Australia's most famous exports.

Jonagold apples

Jonagold is high quality American apple, developed in the 1940s. As its name suggests, this is a cross between the crisp Golden Delicious and the blush-crimson Jonathan. It is most popular in Belgium, and according to the US Apple Association website it is one of the fifteen most popular apple cultivars in the United States. The colouring is yellow of Golden Delicious, with large flushes of red. Jonagold's other parent, Jonathan, is an old American variety which was discovered in the 1820s.

Fuji apples

Fuji apples are the successful cross of two American varieties, the Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls Janet. They were named after Fujisaki, the location of the research center - Tohoku Research Station in Fujisaki (Japan), where they were developed in the late 1930s. The apples were introduced to the market in the 1960s. Since then, they have grown into one of today’s most popular varieties.
